Swiss Solar Boat

Foiling Towards a Sustainable Future

Hydrogen as a New Energy Vector

Hydrogen as a New Energy Vector

After two years of developing a hydrogen range extender for the Dahu, Swiss Solar Boat reached a milestone in April 2024 with the first hydrogen-powered foiling crossing of Lake Geneva from Lausanne to Evian. This symbolic crossing demonstrated hydrogen’s potential as a clean, high-performance solution for maritime transport.

This hydrogen technology is now being integrated at a much larger scale into the design of the current prototype, the Renewable Energy Foiler (REF).

This Year's New Horizons

This Year's New Horizons

This year, Swiss Solar Boat’s focus is to bring the Renewable Energy Foiler (REF) to life. The team is bench-testing components, designing the cockpit, fine-tuning foil control algorithms, and managing a complex network of cabling. They are also building a custom trailer for safe transport, collaborating with partners to secure funding, and analyzing sustainability to measure improvements. Every detail counts in this final push towards the prototype’s completion.

The ultimate goal: see the REF foiling in front of the picturesque Alps and represent Swiss innovation on the global stage at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2026.
